Fades Away

Open your eyes, face the truth.
Things he told you are lies, you have all the proof.
The sweet words he'd say, the look in his eyes,
the way that he held you, the way that he sighed.

He'd tell you he loved you, he promised to stay,
He'd tell you he wants you, but he still went away.
You heard all the words, "It matters" he'd say,
He'd tell you he needs you, but you pushed him away.

Afraid to be hurt, afraid to just try,
To feel all the love promised there in his eyes.
'Cause how could you ever believe it was true,
when you look in the mirror, and see the worst inside you.

All those promises made to you there in the dark,
When he held you and loved you, deep in his heart.
You wanted to believe what he told you was true,
you wanted to see all that he saw in you.

You weren't able to give him all the love he deserved,
you thought that you could, but your mind somehow swerved,
between thoughts of "what if?", and thoughts of "but how?",
You wanted to try, but still failed somehow.

You weren't able to tell him all the things in your heart,
You kept it all hidden, though it tore you apart.
You can't let him inside, you're too scared to just try,
'cause the walls that you've built, are too strong and too high.

And now you must see, that to him it was just play,
you were 'someone to love', if just for a day.
He can't see all the fears that you keep in control,
he can't hear all the cries, from deep in your soul.

They're all memories now, it's all in the past,
you should have known all along that it never could last.
So let it all go, push it away,
You must now face the truth,

Even Love fades away.
